Join us for a magical family afternoon at the Gastón Castelló Social Centre in Alicante, dedicated to the acclaimed Kenyan film Supa Modo — an award-winning family drama that premiered at the Berlinale and was Kenya’s official Oscar submission for Best International Feature Film.
The day begins with a joyful superhero costume workshop, led by Racatrá theatre group (Solidaridad Internacional País Valenciano), open to children, teens, and adults alike. Then comes the film screening, shown in its original Swahili/English version with Spanish subtitles. The story follows Jo, a brilliant 9-year-old girl from rural Kenya living with a terminal illness who dreams of starring in her own superhero movie. To fulfil her final wish, her entire village transforms into a cinematic crew — building sets, improvising special effects, and weaving hope, imagination, and collective love into every frame.
After the screening, participants dive into a hands-on cinematic tricks workshop, learning how to recreate iconic visual effects from the film — from levitation and super-speed to magical transformations — guided by Racatrá’s creative team. The event concludes with a warm, communal gastronomic sharing session, inviting everyone to connect, reflect, and celebrate the same spirit of unity and resilience embodied in the film.
Free admission — registration required until capacity is reached. Organised by Solidaridad Internacional País Valenciano and cultural association Tren al Sur, with support from the Alicante City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana. Part of the Shakara Fáyé 2026 cycle — spotlighting African storytelling, transformative education, and the power of shared imagination.
