"The Sonic Legacy of Óscar Esplá: 50 Years of His Heritage" — Concert by the Municipal Symphonic Band of Alicante

The Municipal Symphonic Band of Alicante invites you to a special concert within its Matinales de la Banda series, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of the renowned Spanish composer Óscar Esplá (1886–1976). This November marks half a century since his passing — an ideal moment to reflect on and celebrate his rich musical legacy, where early 20th-century modernism, folk melodies from Alicante and Valencia, and profound lyrical expression converge.

Under the baton of conductor Pedro Lara Navarrete, the band will perform a curated programme featuring Esplá’s most iconic works — from the celebrated Symphonic Poem “The Mountains of Alicante” to rarely heard chamber and choral pieces. Special emphasis is placed on his deep ties to the city: Esplá was not only a composer but also a pivotal cultural figure — founder of Alicante’s music school and first director of its Philharmonic Society.

Designed for all audiences aged 12 and up, this concert offers a vibrant, accessible introduction to one of Spain’s most influential 20th-century composers — brought to life by one of the country’s finest wind orchestras. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early; late entry is not permitted once the concert begins.
