Founded in 1988 by conductor Alfonso Saura, the Symphony Orchestra of Elche (OSCE) is the oldest permanent orchestral ensemble in the province of Alicante. Since its inception, it has maintained an intense artistic and educational program through symphonic and chamber concert seasons, especially didactic concerts aimed at schoolchildren across the province.
At its regular venue, the Gran Teatro de Elche, the OSCE annually presents up to twelve educational concerts involving over 10,000 students per season, in collaboration with the City Council's Education Department. In recent years, the orchestra has actively advocated for the revival of this valuable series, supported by educators from schools throughout the province.
Since 2014, the OSCE has actively collaborated with Miguel Hernández University (UMH), participating in projects such as the International Music Performance Course, outreach concerts, and the creation of the UMH Youth Orchestra, where OSCE musicians mentor a new generation of university-level performers.
