ADDA — AUDITORIUM OF THE ALICANTE DIPUTATION
The AUDITORIUM OF THE ALICANTE DIPUTATION, known as ADDA (Auditorio y Centro de Congresos de la Diputación de Alicante), is one of the most significant cultural venues in the province of Alicante. Located in the heart of the city, near the train station and Canalejas Park, ADDA combines architectural boldness, advanced technical facilities, and a broad cultural scope. It has become not only a symbol of modern regional cultural life but also a key venue for major national and international events.
Designed by Spanish architect Solomon Sandeville, the ADDA building opened in 2002 and immediately attracted attention with its futuristic design. Its façade made of red aluminum and glass resembles a giant seashell or sail — a nod to Alicante’s maritime identity. The architecture is not only visually impressive but also functionally well thought out: the acoustics in the halls meet the highest standards, making ADDA an ideal location for musical performances and theatrical productions.
ADDA regularly hosts a wide variety of events, from symphonic concerts and opera performances to contemporary dance, jazz festivals, film screenings, and theatrical premieres. Performances feature leading Spanish ensembles such as the National Orchestra of Spain and the Orchestra of the Valencian Community, as well as internationally renowned artists. Additionally, ADDA actively supports local initiatives, including educational projects, children's shows, and cultural festivals aimed at diverse age and social groups.
Particular attention deserves ADDA’s main hall — Sala Grande — with seating for over 1,600 spectators. Its acoustic parameters are finely tuned for natural sound amplification, which is especially valuable for classical music. The complex also includes a smaller chamber hall (Sala de Cámara), conference rooms, and open spaces suitable for exhibitions and cocktail receptions, making it a versatile venue capable of hosting both intimate gatherings and large-scale congresses.
An interesting fact: ADDA frequently serves as a filming location for movies and music videos thanks to its unique exterior and interiors. Moreover, the building is equipped with modern energy-efficient and accessibility systems, highlighting the institution’s commitment to sustainability and inclusivity.
