The possibility of having acted differently is always present in personal relationships—the question of what might have happened, especially when outcomes are not as expected. On this premise rests "Constellations", a play that portrays the relationship between Marianne and Roland through quantum physics and the theory of parallel universes, according to which "multiple outcomes can coexist".
Nick Payne, drawing on the idea of the quantum multiverse, explores the countless possibilities within a couple’s relationship, or between two individuals who never become a couple.
