G7. Born in 1960 in Lleida, Carles Trepat began his guitar studies with Jordi Montagut. In 1976, he attended the last course given by Emilio Pujol in Cervera. He completed his advanced guitar studies with JosĂ© TomĂĄs at the âOscar EsplĂĄâ Conservatory in Alicante and also studied with JosĂ© MarĂa Sierra, Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, and at the Ăcole Normale de Musique de Paris with Rafael AndĂa and Alberto Ponce.
He has received prestigious international awards, including the TĂĄrrega Prize at the Francisco TĂĄrrega International Competition in Benicasim and the First Prize at the Toronto International Guitar Festival in 1987. He has performed at Londonâs Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory Hall in Moscow, the Teatro de La Maestranza in Seville, and participated in the Granada and CadaquĂ©s Festivals, as well as the IbercĂ mera and Palau 100 concert series in Barcelona. As a soloist, he has collaborated with orchestras such as Ciudad de Granada, Solistas de Zagreb, Philharmonique de Montpellier, English Chamber Orchestra, and I Musici, under conductors Leopold Hager, Josep Pons, GarcĂa Asensio, Neville Marriner, and Claudio Scimone.
His interest in popular music led him to arrange songs by Maestro Quiroga for guitar and collaborate with some of todayâs finest flamenco artists, including Tomatito, BelĂ©n Maya, Israel GalvĂĄn, and Duquende.
His work "Homenaje a Baden Powell" was awarded at the Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in Martinique in 1994. In 2017, he composed the "TrĂptico para Antonio Torres," which became part of the soundtrack for the documentary "La española, la de Torres." Also in 2017, he premiered his "Homenaje a Granados" (FantasĂa catalana), written for guitar and chamber orchestra.
He collaborated with Fernando Alonso in recovering the legacy of Miguel Llobet and in the current rediscovery of works by Miguel GarcĂa (P. Basilio).
In 2007, he released the CD "El AlbaicĂn," featuring the first-ever recording of AlbĂ©nizâs piece for solo guitar. His recording "Granados-Llobet, 100 años de un viaje" pays tribute to the great composer from Lleida and his friend Miguel Llobet, the first to transcribe Granadosâs music for guitar.
Carles Trepat is one of todayâs most dedicated advocates of the sound of guitars by Antonio Torres and luthiers who followed his tradition, such as Santos HernĂĄndez and Domingo Esteso.
