JOAN ENRIC LLUNA. Clarinet

Joan Enric Lluna, one of the most prominent Spanish clarinettists of his generation, combines a solo career with orchestral conducting and teaching. He is principal clarinettist of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, a position to which he was appointed by Lorin Maazel in 2006. He previously served as principal clarinet with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta and has collaborated with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

He has performed as soloist under conductors including Zubin Mehta, Neville Marriner, and Gianandrea Noseda at venues such as the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the City of London Festival, and the Classique Festival in The Hague. He regularly collaborates with chamber ensembles like the Tokyo, Brodsky, and Diotima Quartets, and with soloists such as Lluís Claret, Josep Colom, and Juan Carlos Garvayo.

As a conductor, he has led ensembles including the Manchester Camerata, Orquesta de Valencia, Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, and Berliner Camerata, with which he made his debut in the Chamber Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie. In 2006, he founded the ensemble Moonwinds, and since 2009 has directed the Residencias de Música de Cámara de Godella festival. His project Moonwinds Simfònic, premiered in 2020, combines artistic excellence with educational outreach.

Lluna has premiered numerous concertos and chamber works by composers including Sir John Tavener, Guinjoan, Cano, Jesús Torres, Sotelo, Sánchez-Verdú, and Isidora Zebeljan, and is preparing premieres of works by Jorge Grundman and Miquel Ortega. His discography includes over 25 recordings, featuring three versions of Mozart's Concerto K622, Brahms works with the Tokyo Quartet, Weber symphonies with the Berliner Camerata, and albums such as *Jazz Impact*, *Le jour de l’an*, and *Benet Casablancas: The Clarinet Music*.

Dedicated to recovering Spanish and Valencian musical heritage, he is currently working on the critical edition of unpublished ballets by Vicente Martín y Soler, whose music he recorded for the album *Suites de ballet* (Aria Classics), awarded the "Melómano de Oro" prize.

A teacher at ESMUC and Trinity College of Music in London, he is frequently invited to institutions such as the Sibelius Academy, Royal College, and California State University. He was recently honoured as "Insigne de la Música" by the Academia de la Música Valenciana.
