Founded in 1952 by Rafael Casasempere Juan, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Alcoy (OSA) has been a cornerstone of cultural life in the Valencian Community. Its founding led to the creation of the current Juan Cantó Music School.
The orchestra has worked with distinguished conductors, with Gregorio Casasempere Gisbert serving as its principal conductor since 1982. Its versatility allows it to perform repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary music, including numerous world premieres by composers such as Amando Blanquer, Rodrigo A. de Santiago, and Javier Darias.
It has collaborated with renowned soloists and choirs like the Coral Polifónica Alcoyana and the Coro de Valencia, and participated in operas and zarzuelas with local lyric companies.
Among its recordings are “La Nostra Música”, “Missa a S. Jordi”, and “Alcoi 750 Aniversari”. In 2002, it expanded its educational mission by establishing the String Academy and the Jove Orquestra d’Alcoi (JOA).
