The OJPA, the Young People's Orchestra of the Province of Alicante, is a symphonic ensemble founded in 2009. Since its inception, the OJPA has played a key role in training over 1,000 musicians. A musical career is a long journey that begins at an early age, yet few manage to complete it fully. Being part of this orchestra gives young people a sense of commitment and inspiration, motivating them to continue their training with passion. This is a source of pride and satisfaction for everyone involved in this initiative, contributing to its development through effort and dedication.
This unique project primarily aims to encourage and develop the talent of young musicians throughout the Province of Alicante. This involves a fundamental truth: training musicians also means educating our youth, instilling values such as effort, perseverance, commitment, camaraderie, and collaboration in a didactic and pedagogical way, inspiring them to become better both in their discipline and in daily life.
Currently, the OJPA consists of 80 young members aged between 8 and 23, with an average age of 15, under the direction of its founder and conductor, Francisco Maestre.
Throughout the academic year, the musicians meet regularly and rehearse weekly to prepare concerts presented across the province. This allows them to share their passion with audiences and receive well-deserved recognition.
These concerts represent a crucial opportunity for preparation and international exposure for the orchestra, especially through participation in prestigious festivals such as the Summa Cum Laude Festival in Vienna, where they have earned significant accolades. In fact, the OJPA became the first and only youth orchestra in the world to win First Prize with Excellence in the editions of 2015, 2017, and 2018.
In 2024, it was established as the Spanish youth orchestra with the highest number of participations in this international competition. In July 2025, in addition to returning to the Summa Cum Laude Festival—where it was once again honored with an award—the OJPA had the honor of performing a concert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, one of the most prestigious and renowned musical institutions worldwide.
