The Magic Flute — W. A. Mozart

Prince Tamino is pursued by a giant serpent and, trying to escape, flees into the forest—unaware that he has entered the realm of the Queen of the Night. There, he strikes a bargain with her: in exchange for rescuing her daughter Pamina from the clutches of Sarastro, he shall win her hand in marriage.

Tamino sets out to save his beloved, accompanied by the bird-catcher Papageno. Yet upon arriving in Sarastro’s domain, he discovers that reality is not what it seemed: Sarastro is a wise high priest—not a villain—and Tamino chooses to remain by Pamina’s side, rejecting the Queen of the Night.

To prove himself worthy of joining the temple of the wise and uniting with his love, Tamino must undergo a series of trials—and triumphs over them all.

In the end, the lovers are united forever, while their malevolent mother suffers definitive defeat.
