Archaeological Tour of Alicante’s Old Town
Step into over two millennia of Mediterranean history on an engaging archaeological walking tour through Alicante’s Old Town! The itinerary begins at Paseíto de Ramiro — a remarkably preserved stretch of the 16th-century city wall — and winds through iconic historic landmarks: Calle Villavieja, Plaza del Puente, Calle Toledo, Plaza del Carmen, Plaza San Cristóbal, Calle Labradores, Plaza del Abad Penalva, Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and culminates at the Church of Santa María — one of the city’s oldest Christian temples, with origins tracing back to the Reconquista era.
Led by expert archaeologist and cultural heritage specialist Juan Antonio Bravo, this tour goes beyond surface-level sightseeing. You’ll uncover hidden layers of history — from Iberian settlements and Roman roads to the Almohad fortress of Al-Laqant and medieval Christian quarters. Learn how modern Casco Antiguo evolved, discover findings from recent urban excavations, and understand why this district remains the beating heart of Alicante’s identity.
The tour lasts approximately two hours. Meet at 4:50 p.m. at the wall on Paseíto de Ramiro. Free admission, but advance online registration is mandatory — places are limited (max two per email). Please register only if you intend to attend: unexcused absences will disqualify participants from future events in the series.
