The resident symphonic orchestra of the “Valencian Community Foundation — ADDA”, and simultaneously the resident ensemble of the Alicante Provincial Auditorium, ADDA·Symphonic Orchestra Alicante has rapidly become a cornerstone of Spain’s musical life since its founding in 2018. Bathed in the light of the Mediterranean coast, the orchestra is distinguished by its unique sonic personality — a reflection of its founder and Principal Conductor, Josep Vicent. It is an “author orchestra”, capable of evoking deep emotion and inspiration at every concert.

Its regular season combines high-calibre symphonic cycles featuring world-renowned artists with international projects such as its recent Asian tour (two concerts at Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Osaka), the Christmas Concert at Barcelona’s Palau de la Música, stage productions at the Ljubljana and Berlioz Festivals, and upcoming debuts in Budapest and Sofia.

The orchestra innovates through stylistic versatility, the exceptional talent of its musicians, and strong social commitment: educational and theatrical outreach activities, concerts in nursing homes, community centres, and hospitals. Its forward-looking ethos shines through in performances of contemporary music, world premieres, and staged productions with Emilio Sagi or La Fura dels Baus (*El amor brujo*, *Carmen*, *La Bohème*, *Die Schöpfung*, *Carmina Burana*, *Pastoral for the Planet*). Standout initiatives include the “Chick Corea Symphony Tribute” jazz-symphonic project and the audiovisual integral staging of Stravinsky’s ballets.

Its discographic and audiovisual output (Warner Classics, Aria Classics, Parma Recordings, Discmedi, IMM Klassik) has received four *Melómano de Oro* awards and numerous GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominations. Renowned artists including Valery Gergiev, Maria João Pires, Javier Perianes, Paquito D’Rivera, Pablo Sainz-Villegas, Katia & Marielle Labèque, Denis Kozhukhin, and Joaquín Achúcarro have graced its stages.

Josep Vicent is Founding Artistic and Principal Conductor of ADDA Symphonic Orchestra, as well as Principal and Artistic Conductor of Argovia Philharmonic in Switzerland. Since 2014, he has pursued an extensive creative collaboration as Musical Director with La Fura dels Baus and Carlus Padrissa; since 2024, he has been Resident Conductor of the Berlioz Festival (France); since 2015, Associated Musical Director of the Ljubljana Festival; and he also collaborates with Guy Caron (Cirque du Soleil).

Multiple GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® nominee, double winner of the Spanish Academy of Music Award. Recipient of the Jeunesses Musicales Prize, the “City of Valencia” Arts Prize, the Oscar Esplà Prize, the IMPORTANTES Press Award (Iberian Peninsula), the Cadena COPE Culture Prize, the MIN Award for Best Classical Album, and five-time *Melómano de Oro* laureate.

Today, Josep Vicent is a globally recognised conductor with an outstanding international career — leading projects, recordings, tours, and programmes with the London Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony (Miami), Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Radio Metropole Orkest, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Paris Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquestra de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Zuid-Nederland Philharmonie, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, WDR, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonie, Slovak Philharmonic, Oulu Symphony Orchestra (Finland), Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta de Valencia, Milan Symphony Orchestra, La Toscanini, and national symphonies of Belgium, Chile, and Brazil — among many others.

He regularly collaborates with leading classical, jazz, and crossover soloists: Pinchas Zuckerman, Fazil Say, Patrick Messina, Sainz Villegas, Paquito D’Rivera, Maria João Pires, Joe Alessi, Katia & Marielle Labèque, Joaquín Achúcarro, Kozhukhin, Floristán, Antonio Serrano, Leticia Moreno, Ramón Vargas, and Plácido Domingo.

Josep Vicent has directed acclaimed productions at prestigious theatres and festivals worldwide, including the Rouen Opera, Teatro Colón, Teatro Real (Madrid), Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), La Monnaie (Brussels — *Retablo de Maese Pedro* by Manuel de Falla, celebrating Spain’s European Capital of Culture), Leipzig Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, La Maestranza, and Teatro Arriaga (Massenet, Rossini, Poulenc, Montsalvatge, etc.). His signature cross-genre projects — *Carmen* (Bizet) with Emilio Sagi, García Lorca, *Romeo & Juliet*, *El amor brujo*, and *Chick Corea* — have toured multiple countries.

Previously, he served as Artistic Director of the APG/Xenakis Festival, Principal Conductor of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic and Principal Conductor of The World Orchestra of Jeunesses Musicales for 15 years — undertaking extensive tours across four continents. For his solidarity and social work in Africa and Asia, and for concerts worldwide — including four appearances at Berlin’s Philharmonie — he was appointed UNESCO Peace Culture Foundation Ambassador by Dr. Federico Mayor Zaragoza.

His crossover projects have consolidated a distinctive artistic language and opened new aesthetic pathways. Numerous composers have dedicated works to him. In 2026/27, he will premiere pieces by Tan Dun, Fazil Say, David del Puerto, Albert Guinovart, and others.

With ADDA Symphonic Orchestra, he maintains an exceptional level of activity — touring Germany, Spain, France, and Japan (following a recent nine-concert tour including double performances in Osaka and Tokyo; the orchestra returns to Japan in 2028).

His extensive discography is available on Deutsche Grammophon, Aria Classics, and Warner Classics. His latest album (2025) features the London Symphony Orchestra and Venezuelan cellist Gregorio Nieto; another recent release is *Brahms/Berio* with Patrick Messina and ADDA Symphonic Orchestra.

The city of Alicante has named Josep Vicent “Cultural Ambassador”.
