Traditional Christmas Swim in Alicante: A Challenge to the Cold and an Act of Solidarity
Alicante, December 13, 2025 — Less than a week remains until one of the most anticipated sporting events of the Christmas season in Alicante — the TravesÃa de Navidad (Christmas Swim). On December 21, Playa del Postiguet will once again fill with brave souls ready to dive into the cool waters of the Mediterranean Sea to bid farewell to the year in a vibrant and meaningful way.
This annual event, organized by the Municipal Sports Council of Alicante in collaboration with the Natación Aquatic Alicante club, combines sport, celebration, and solidarity. Participants can choose between a 1500-meter or 3000-meter distance, and also take part in a special solidarity relay swim of 4×200 meters. All proceeds from the relay will go to ASPANION, the Association of Parents of Children with Cancer in the Valencian Community.
"This is a special opportunity to end the year swimming together, sharing effort, and adding solidarity. A swim to live together — in the sea and on land," organizers said in their announcement.
Participants will gather early in the morning, with the race starting around 9:30 a.m. Despite the winter water temperatures, hundreds of swimmers overcome the cold each year, many wearing wetsuits, to experience true Christmas adrenaline.
The TravesÃa de Navidad marks the opening of the 2025/2026 Copa Alicante Open Water Swimming League season and has become an integral part of Alicante's holiday program.
