The fusion of flamenco and jazz reaches a new artistic dimension through this big band. Led by the Hispano-Dutch saxophonist Bernard van Rossum — recipient of the “Rogier van Otterloo Award 2022” — the ensemble has performed at major festivals including the North Sea Jazz Festival (NL), Jazz San Javier (Spain), and Makhanda Jazz Festival (South Africa), among others.
On its three released albums, the band has collaborated with leading flamenco artists such as Antonio Serrano, Carles Benavent, David de Jacoba, and Rafael de Utrera.
After more than ten years of activity, van Rossum returns to the FIJAZZ Festival with his acclaimed big band, bringing together some of the most outstanding young figures in today’s flamenco and jazz scenes — vocalist María Marín, virtuoso pianist Xavi Torres, and flamenco dancer Karen Lugo.
"I heard some new territory that night…"
Kenny Werner
"His engaging compositions and arrangements are awash in perception and authenticity."
