Zara Triggers Commercial 'Earthquake' in Alicante with New Megastore on Avenida Maisonnave
The flagship brand of the Inditex group, Zara, is preparing for a major relocation in Alicante, already dubbed a true "commercial earthquake" in the city's main shopping artery—Avenida Maisonnave, known as the "golden mile."
The old building formerly housing the Sfera store (El Corte Inglés brand) has been completely demolished. In its place, a modern commercial complex spanning over 6,000 m² is being built at Maisonnave 22. The development will incorporate an adjacent plot on Calle General Lacy while preserving the historic street facade alignment.
The new Zara store will become a veritable "cathedral of fashion," featuring spacious halls with natural lighting, large display windows with a triple façade, and a contemporary design seamlessly integrated into the urban landscape. The ground floor alone will offer more than 800 m² of exhibition space, with multiple levels dedicated to clothing, footwear, and accessories collections.
This move will allow Zara to transition from a rented space opposite El Corte Inglés to its own iconic property, strengthening Inditex’s presence on Maisonnave, where Zara Home, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, and Oysho already operate.
The opening of the new megastore is expected in the first half of 2027. This project will not only enhance the commercial offering in central Alicante but also restore historical facade harmony, making Avenida Maisonnave even more attractive for shopping and tourism.
