Spain on the Brink: Tax Inspectors to Strike for the First Time in 17 Years!

Spain is facing a major crisis in its tax system. Employees of the Agencia Tributaria (tax authority) have announced a strike for November 26, 2025. Around 8,500 specialists—the key fighters against tax evasion—will be affected.

Why are they protesting?

Lack of career growth: The career ladder is blocked despite requirements set by the 2006 law.

Insufficient resources: Since 2011, cases targeting major tax evaders have decreased by 82%, while all efforts are diverted to dealing with the "nightmare" of self-employed individuals and small and medium-sized businesses.

The last strike was in 2008—17 years of patience have finally run out!

The Gestha union is demanding reforms to enable the tax agency to effectively combat fraud and monitor spending. This could paralyze audits and revenue collection—a serious blow to the national budget. What do you think: Is this justified? Share your thoughts in the comments!
