Ryanair Switches to 100% Digital Boarding Passes from November 12, 2025

November 11, 2025

Ryanair switches to 100% digital boarding passes from November 12, 2025 — no more paper tickets!

November 12, 2025 — Ryanair officially completes its transition to fully digital boarding passes. This means you will no longer be able to download and print a paper pass — it will only be available in the myRyanair app. The change applies to almost all flights (except rare cases like Morocco or Albania, where local authorities still require paper documents).

Ryanair cites environmental benefits (saving 300 tons of paper per year), faster boarding, and the fact that 80–90% of passengers already use the app. However, many travelers are concerned: "What if my phone dies?" or "I don’t have a smartphone!".

Important: this is NOT a new mandatory passport + selfie verification for everyone!

Passport photo and selfie verification is required only in two cases:

  • If the ticket was purchased through third-party resellers (not directly on ryanair.com) — to combat ticket resale.
  • For non-EU/EEA citizens — uploading visa/residence permit (this rule has been in place for years and only applies to those who need a visa).

For most passengers (with tickets bought directly) — the only change is the digital boarding pass!

Step-by-step guide: What to do NOW to avoid missing your flight

  1. Download the myRyanair app (App Store or Google Play).
  2. Without it, you won’t get a boarding pass from tomorrow onward!
  3. Add your booking to the app:
  4. Log in with your email or booking reference. If your ticket is old — add it manually.
  5. Complete online check-in:
  6. Opens 24 hours before departure (or 60 days in advance if you’ve paid for a seat).
  7. If verification is needed (rarely) — the app will ask for a passport photo + selfie. This takes 2–5 minutes.
  8. Get your digital boarding pass:
  9. It will appear automatically in the app after check-in. Add it to Apple Wallet / Google Wallet for extra safety.
  10. What if your phone runs out of battery / is lost / you don’t have a smartphone?
  11. Most importantly — complete online check-in in advance!
  12. At the airport, go to the counter — they will issue a paper pass free of charge (if check-in was completed).
  13. If you need a visa/residence permit (non-EU):
  14. During check-in, the app will prompt you to upload documents. If automatic verification fails — staff will check at the counter (arrive 3–4 hours early).
  15. Useful tips:

This change is real and confirmed by Ryanair (sources: Euronews, The Independent, official website). Don’t panic — for 90% of passengers, nothing changes except the boarding pass being on your phone instead of paper.

If you have a flight this week — complete check-in now! Have a safe flight! ✈️
