Google Launches Global Interactive Flood Risk Map: Spain Included
Google has introduced and is actively expanding the Flood Hub service — a global interactive map designed to assess river flood risk in dozens of countries worldwide, including Spain.
Developed by Google Research using artificial intelligence, the Flood Hub tool integrates weather forecasts, river condition data, satellite imagery, and historical flood records. Based on these inputs, AI calculates the probability of river overflow and estimates the potential extent of flooding in adjacent areas up to 7 days in advance.
The service displays near real-time information, is updated daily, and is freely accessible at this link.
Users can select a region, city, or locality in Spain to view current water level trends, forecasts, and maps of potential flooding.
Important note: Flood Hub focuses exclusively on river floods, and does not monitor localized street flooding, courtyard inundation, or urban stormwater flooding. Google emphasizes that all data are approximate and intended for informational purposes only. For official warnings and authoritative information, users should consult civil protection agencies, AEMET (State Meteorological Agency), and local authorities.
As of today, Flood Hub covers river basins in over 150 countries, delivering forecasts to hundreds of millions of people. In Spain, the tool is especially valuable during periods of heavy rainfall and storms, when river overflow risk significantly increases.
Google continues to expand coverage and add new features — including detailed historical flood maps for emergency response professionals and disaster management organizations.
