CCOO Union Files Labour Inspection Complaint Over Unsanitary Conditions at Alicante School of Art and Design
The CCOO union branch l'AlacantÃ-les Marines filed a formal complaint on December 12 with the Provincial Labour Inspection Office in Alicante over "extreme unsanitary conditions" at the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Alicante (EASDA). The union is demanding the immediate relocation of the educational institution to a suitable facility for teaching activities.
The complaint highlights that current conditions pose a serious health risk to both teachers and students, including respiratory illnesses, eye problems, and other chronic conditions. The union also invokes the Law on the Protection of Minors, as some students are aged 15–16.
The complaint has been lodged against the Dirección Territorial de Educación de Alicante, the Conselleria de Educación, and the Instituto Superior de Enseñanzas ArtÃsticas de la Comunidad Valenciana for potential violations of occupational risk prevention regulations.
This is not the first incident: in autumn 2025, EASDA was repeatedly closed due to flea infestations, reports of dampness, wall cracks, insect presence (cockroaches, larvae), lack of proper ventilation, and inadequate accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The school’s surroundings have been described as a "dumpsite." Students and staff have protested multiple times, calling for a new location.
The union insists on urgent measures to ensure safe learning conditions.
