Alicante Prepares for Enhanced Security During Christmas and New Year

Alicante, December 15, 2025 — The Municipal Safety Council of Alicante has announced extraordinary measures to strengthen public order ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. As reported by Safety Councillor Julio Calero during a plenary session in November, the regular police contingent will be significantly expanded with an additional 25 officers from the local police force.

This decision aims to ensure calm during a period of heightened activity: Christmas markets, large public events, increased tourist numbers, and shoppers in the city’s commercial areas. The reinforcement will focus on key locations — the city center, beaches, markets, and venues hosting festive events.

Additionally, in late November, an emergency roster for voluntary overtime was activated among police officers, enabling swift coverage of major events such as the Elche-Alicante Marathon and Christmas festivities. Recently, the municipality also launched a tender for private security services at municipal facilities, freeing up to 36 local police officers for street patrols.

"We want residents and visitors to feel completely safe during these magical days," emphasized Julio Calero.

The enhanced security measures will form part of Alicante’s overall holiday preparation plan, where millions of lights are already shining, and markets and attractions have opened. The city promises to be not only bright but also maximally protected.
