Seasonal Drop in Employment in Alicante Province: November Sees Loss of 1,300 Jobs

Alicante, December 15, 2025 — As expected during this period following the peak tourist season, employment remains high but begins to decline with the onset of winter. According to data released Tuesday by the Ministry of Social Security, in November the province of Alicante ended the month with 773,203 social security contributors—1,300 fewer than in October. However, this is only 275 less than in August, highlighting stability after the seasonal peak.

This marks the third decline in contributors this year, following drops in August and September. Despite the monthly decrease, annual growth remains strong: nearly 23,000 more contributors than in November 2024.

Meanwhile, registered unemployment rose slightly: according to SEPE, there were 119,468 unemployed individuals in November—226 more than in October. This is the lowest November unemployment figure since 2007. Compared to last year, there are 8,199 fewer unemployed, and 13,016 fewer than two years ago.

Experts attribute these changes to the end of the high season in tourism and services, which dominate the provincial economy. "Seasonal slowdown is evident, particularly in the hospitality sector, but the overall picture remains positive due to recovery from previous downturns," analysts note.

Nationally, Spain's labor market shows resilience, though tourist regions like Alicante traditionally experience employment adjustments during winter months. The situation is expected to stabilize as Christmas holidays approach.
